The new road would be designed as an urban spine of the development and will have the capacity to cope with the volume of traffic predicted for this part of the town’s road network. The building of the underpass and underbridge will also help open up a proposed development site, unlocking up to 6,000 homes either side of the railway line. This will also provide pedestrians and cyclists facilities on that section of the road. To alleviate the safety issues, the A4095 will be realigned to increase capacity and ease congestion and provide safer lanes. The existing low bridge is already at increased risk of being struck by vehicles, this poses a danger to the public. With the projected growth in Bicester, this will make the road and the area further congested. This junction is regularly congested with traffic queuing. The A4095 is located on the western side of Bicester, currently passes under the railway line via a bridge with low headroom, and where there is a prioritised junction between Howes Lane (A4095) and Bucknell Road, followed closely by a small roundabout connecting Lords Lane (A4095) and Bucknell Road. This phase is currently in design with construction scheduled to start in Aug 2022. The completed bridleway will be be delivered alongside the new homes. This is comprised of the realignment of the A4095 through the new underbridge and construction of a separate bridleway through the underpass for cyclists, equestrians and pedestrians enabling full connectivity through the development area.
